Sharing items as so-called “clips” is easy; here’s how.
If you already have a web site or blog, you can integrate a small “blog posts of interest” section for
it using a Google Reader feature called clips.
To give this a try, visit Google Reader (http://reader.google.com) and click on the “All items”
navigation link to the left side, or select any other view, like a folder in your subscription list. When
you are scrolling through the list of blog posts, notice that the post in focus has a blue border,
whereas posts out of focus have a gray border. Whenever you feel that a post currently in reading
focus is worth sharing, hit the shortcut Shift-S on your keyboard, or click the Share icon below the
post, which ags the post as being shared. Repeat this for every post you want to share.
To publish the clip of your shared items, go to the Reader Settings page and select the Tags tab. In
it, next to the row labelled “Your shared items” click the “add a clip . . .” link. A new browser window
opens, as shown in Figure 8-11. If you want to, adjust the layout options for the clip widget. Then
copy the relevant HTML snippet out of the text box. Paste the snippet into the template of your blog
or other home page, publish the template, and you’re done—the clip gadget will now automatically
display new items you shared from within Google Reader!
