Sbarro started in 1956, as a family-owned Italian grocery store
in Brooklyn, New York, offering homemade mozzarella, imported
cheese, sausage, and salami. It became popular for its fresh food
and Italian foods and proved to be a very successful chain. A
quote from Sbarro’s website states, “When the Sbarro family emi-
grated from Naples, they brought the best of Italy with them. The
handmade dishes at their Brooklyn Salumeria drew customers
from near and far for a true taste of Italy. Over 50 years later,
we’re in over 600 locations in the US and over 1,100 locations
