SOUNDEX (string)Returns a string of digits that represents the phonetic pronunciation of string. Using SOUNDEX can make it easier to search for a given string, because you don’t need to spell it correctly in order to get a match.
Use the following steps to derive the output string:
Retain the first letter of the string.
Remove all occurrences of the following letters: a, e, h, i, o, u, w, y.
Replace any remaining letters with digits, as shown in Table 8-1.
Truncate the resulting string to four characters in length.
