Jobs

Enterprise Manager can handle the creation, scheduling, and management of jobs. A job is any operation that can be performed with SQL statements, operating system commands, or scripts.

Through the Enterprise Manager Console, you can create a job and schedule it for multiple sites. You can also create a job for servers on different platforms, because Enterprise Manager uses Tool Command Language (Tcl), a platform-neutral language, for its internal scripts.

Enterprise Manager comes with some predefined tasks, which mainly relate to database management. You can use these tasks in creating jobs, as well as SQL*Plus, operating system, or Tcl scripts.

The Oracle Management Server passes a specific job to a specific Intelligent Agent at a scheduled time. If the Intelligent Agent is not available, the Oracle Management Server continues to try to pass the job along until the agent comes back up.

Enterprise Manager also tracks the status of jobs, both during operation and after the operation completes.
