SHUTDOWN [ NORMAL | ABORT | IMMEDIATE | TRANSACTIONAL ][;]

Shuts down the target database. NORMAL is the default.

Shuts down the database immediately and indicates crash recovery the next time the database is started.

IMMEDIATE

Shuts down the database immediately.

TRANSACTIONAL

Allows all clients to complete current transactions, prevents any new transactions from initiating, and disconnects users after all transactions have terminated. After this process, shuts down the database.
