Creates a role. When you create a role, it is automatically granted to you as a default role.

Keywords

NOT IDENTIFIED

Specifies that no password is required for the role.

IDENTIFIED

Indicates the way the user will be authenticated before being allowed to enable the role or assume the role as a default role. Options are:

BY password

Local user must provide password to enable role.

USING (schema.)package

A package will verify the user. Used for application roles. If a schema name is not provided, the package is assumed to be in your schema. New with Oracle9i.

EXTERNALLY

External user is authorized by a third-party service, like the operating system.

GLOBALLY

User is authorized by an enterprise directory service.
