Using Statspack

Statspack works by creating a snapshot view of performance statistics at a particular point in time. The snapshot is identified by a SNAP_ID, a DBID, and an INSTANCE_ID.

To create a snapshot, log into SQL*Plus as PERFSTAT/PERFSTAT and use the command:

EXECUTE STATSPACK.SNAP;

You can also call the SNAP procedure to return the SNAP_ID of the most recent snapshot.

You can use the procedures in the DBMS_JOB built-in package to schedule snapshots to run at specific intervals.
