Synopsis

Value: any valid language name

Default: derived

Dynamic: ALTER SESSION

Specifies the default language of the database. Used for messages; the day and month names; the symbols for AD, BC, AM, and PM; and the default sorting mechanism. This parameter determines the default values of the parameters NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE and NLS_SORT.
