Cloning

Fundamentally, Git is a version control system that's primarily used for source code versioning (though it has other uses, too).

To demonstrate how it works, let's clone a smallish repository (in this case, Ansible):

$ git clone https://github.com/ansible/ansible.gitCloning into 'ansible'...

This may take a couple of minutes based on your connection, but, once finished, you'll be left with an ansible folder:

$ ls -ltotal 4drwxrwxr-x. 14 vagrant vagrant 4096 Nov 19 18:10 ansible
