This is the first of the tools in this recipe that's unlikely to be installed by default; we sometimes come to iftop during the troubleshooting process because it's great for visualization. Humans tend to like visualization. We're simple creatures with simple dreams, and those dreams are generally vivid in color, and feature confusing graphs and charts (if you're me).
As a result, where a computer prefers strings and structure, we tend to like a good representation of what it is we're looking at, and iftop gives us this:
$ sudo iftop
