I didn't include testing graphics cards and things of that nature in this section because it's usually quite easy to tell when a graphics card is on the way out (graphical glitches, random lines, and occasional beeps).
I also didn't mention physical RAID cards, because there's such an abundance that it would be impossible to list a coherent method for all of them. The best advice I can give for physical RAID cards is to check out the manufacturer's details on testing.
We didn't cover write tests for disks, partly because it's usually pretty obvious to tell disk issues from read tests alone, and partly because a lot of the methods of testing writes can be destructive if done incorrectly.
