When you initialize your repository on centos2, you're creating the first of a repository that can exist on any number of devices, and that don't necessarily have to be cloned from your central location (centos2).

If, for some reason, you're in a situation where you can't clone from the initial server (centos2), you could also clone the repository from another machine that already had the repository checked out (though you do run the risk of that repository not being up to date with the first node).

When you clone the repository, you're actually communicating over SSH with the centos2 box, and Git sends specific commands that are understood by the repository on the other side and answered.
