Moving on to examplefile, we have the following:.
-rw-rw-r--. 1 vagrant vagrant 0 Oct 28 11:00 examplefile
Here, we can see much the same as exampledir, with a few changes.
The d has been replaced by a—character, meaning we're dealing with an actual file.
-rw-rw-r--.
The permissions for the user and group are read only and write, meaning the file can be read and modified, but it can't yet be executed by the user and group.
-rw-rw-r--.
The permissions for everyone else are only read, meaning the file can have cat/less applied, but it can't be modified or executed.
-rw-rw-r--. 1
And finally, we can see a 1 for the number of links, which makes sense as the underlying inode isn't referenced from elsewhere.
