At the moment, you should have a container created by LXC, inside a virtual machine managed by Vagrant (and utilizing VirtualBox) atop your own laptop, desktop, or server.
This can get a bit tricky to visualize, but a lot of clever people put a lot of hours into making sure this sort of setup works without problems.
