Amorphous polymers are normally classified according to their morphology. These types of polymers have a disordered chain structure and are generally found in a random coil conformation and thus do not exhibit any crystalline structures in X-ray or electron scattering experiments. Figure 6.1 displays the respective structures.
Amorphous polymers can be glassy, brittle, and ductile. Some examples are acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) polymer, poly(methyl methacrylate) PMMA, polycarbonate, polysulfone, polyetherimide, polyethersulfone, etc.
