Polyelectrolytes are polymers that are composed of a single type of charged monomer subunit, and therefore the overall polymer is either positively or negatively charged. They can be divided into polycations and polyanions and polysalts.
Applications:
Polyelectrolytes are often used as thickeners, dispersant agents, conditioners, emulsifiers, ion exchangers, and clarifying agents. They are also used in biochemical and medical applications such as implant coatings and controlled drug release.
