Biopolymers are natural polymers produced by living organisms. There are three main classes of biopolymers which are polynucleotides (such as the nucleic acids DNA and RNA), polypeptides (that is, proteins), and polysaccharides (that is, polymeric carbohydrates). Some natural biopolymers include cellulose, alginate, chitosan (chitin), gelatin, lignin, etc.
