Fillers are materials that are added to a polymer formulation to lower the compound cost and/or to improve properties.
Mixing polymers with fillers was established in the early 1930s when polymers such as phenolic, urea, and aniline-formaldehyde resins were developed. In 1942 the first fiberglass laminates made from PPG CR-38 and CR-39 resins were produced.
