Carbon dioxide (CO2)–responsive polymers are a kind of stimuli-responsive polymer that is able to show a reversible switching of at least a physicochemical property when adding and removing CO2, i.e. when applying the stimulus.
The first example of a CO2-responsive polymer based on amidine units to capture CO2 was reported by Endo et al. in 2004.
Currently, responsive mechanisms of CO2-responsive polymers can be divided into three categories according to their responsive behavior.
