Porous polymers are polymeric materials containing one or more pores. The pore diameters rang from sub‐nanometer to millimeter.
The commonly used pore generation approaches include macromolecular design, self‐assembly, phase separation, solid and liquid templating, sol‐gel formation, and foaming.
Porous polymers are now being applied in 1) gas adsorption, 2) water treatment, 3) separation, 4) heterogeneous catalysis, 5) electrochemical energy storage, 6) precursors for porous carbons, and 7) other fields (e.g., intelligent temperature control textiles, sensing, proton conduction, biomedicine, optoelectronics, and actuators).
