Elastomers are long-chain polymers of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and silicon whose chemical structures have intermolecular crosslinks. They are viscoelastic and possess generally a low Young’s modulus and high failure strain. They are capable of recovering their original shape after being stretched to great extent – hence the name elastomer.
