62 Free-Radical Initiators
Free-radical initiators are organic and inorganic compounds that can be used to generate radicals that initiate polymerization. The two most common classes of initiators are peroxide and azo compounds (Figure 62.1).
Free radicals cannot only be generated by thermal decomposition but also other methods including:
- Photolysis
- Redox reactions
- Ionizing radiation
- Plasma
