Oligomers are low-molecular-weight polymers comprising a small number of repeat units whose physical properties are significantly dependent on the length of the chain.
Applications:
Oligomers have applications in the following major areas:
Elastomer – polyethylene oxide oligomers in spandex
Coatings and adhesives – acrylic oligomers
Lubricants – fluorinated oligomers used as lubricants on satellites, disk drives, etc.
Biomedical – targeting, drug release, antimicrobial, etc.
