Dendrimers are highly branched, star-shaped macromolecules with nanometer-scale dimensions. Dendrimers are defined by three components: a central core, an interior dendritic structure (the branches), and an exterior surface with functional surface groups.
Dendrimers are used for many applications in biomedical areas like drug delivery, gene transfection, transdermal drug delivery, magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents, etc. There are many other applications of dendrimer systems such as catalysis, energy harvesting, photo activity, molecular weight and size determination, rheology modification, nanoscale science and technology, etc.
