Ring polymers, also called cyclic polymers, are polymers with a cyclic structure with no beginning or end.
Because of the unique topology, ring polymers exhibit a unique set of properties when compared with linear or branched polymers. The cyclic architecture can play a role in imparting valuable physical properties, such as increased chemical stability or propensity toward self-assembly.
Due to their closed-loop structures, ring polymers are thought to have unique molecular-scale properties, which could lead to interesting and fundamentally different bulk material properties. This can be used for the design and creation of new materials.
