So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
102 Melt Spinning
Melt spinning is one of the most economic methods of fabricating polymeric fibers and is used extensively in the textile industry. In this process, a polymer is melted and extruded through a spinneret containing a number of holes into a chamber, where a blast of cold air or gas is directed on the surface of fibers emanating from the spinneret.
Applications:
Melt spun fibers can be applied in the following fields:
- Functional textile materials, conductive, temperature and chemical resistant
- High-performance composites
- Specialist medical devices
- High strength for reinforcing and antiballistics
- Filtration systems and construction
