Polymer flooding is an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method that uses polymer solutions to increase oil recovery by decreasing the water/oil mobility ratio by increasing the viscosity of the displacing water.
The most commonly used polymers include polyacrylamids (PAMs), partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM), and xanthan gum.
Applications:
Polymer flooding is one of the most widely used EOR methods. It has several benefits including improving the mobility of injected fluids, increasing vertical and areal sweep efficiencies, less water required compared to water flooding, and low cost compared to the other EOR techniques.
