This really surprises a lot of photographers, but your power setting (the brightness of the flash) will probably be fairly low most of the time. In fact, I’m rarely at full power, unless I’m shooting with flash outside on a bright, sunny day. Otherwise, I’m at 1/4 power or less nearly all the time. The 1/4 power setting is my go-to starting amount anytime I set up my flash.
