I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
If You Want to See Background Shadows
Part of this is going to seem amazingly obvious, but if you want to see your subject’s shadow on the background, move them so they’re about a foot from the background, and you’ll see that shadow for sure, if your flash is on one side or the other (less so if you’re shooting straight on, but you’re probably not shooting straight on, right?). Of course, this shadow is going to be fairly soft because you’re using a softbox or diffuser or something to make the light flattering, but what if you want a harder shadow? One with real definition and without the blurring? Then, you need to go with hard light—that’s right, ...
