My first choice when going on location (as long as I have a friend or assistant to help) is to mount my flash (with a softbox) right on the end of a monopod, like the Oben ACM-1400 4-Section Aluminum Monopod—it only weighs like one pound, and it extends to 61", so it’s easy for a friend or assistant to hold up high (well, higher than your subject anyway). It’s $39.95 at B&H, and you attach your tilt bracket to the little spigot on the end.
