Now it’s time to turn on your flash. For on-location shoots, I set the power of my flash to 1/4 power as my starting place. This might have to move up/down (probably down) after I do a test shot or two, but this is a great starting place. In an office environment, I still start at 1/4 power. Now, take a test shot and see where you’re at. Chances are one of two things need adjusting: (1) the flash is too bright, or (2) the background is too dark.
