So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Your Flash’s Modeling Light
When you shoot in a photo studio, the regular room lights in the studio are generally very low, so most studio lights come with what’s called a modeling light. This is usually a separate, low-wattage, continuous light bulb that does two things: (1) it stays lit all the time to give you a preview of how your lighting and shadows will look on your subject before you actually fire the flash, so it’s really helpful when positioning the lights; and, (2) it helps you focus your camera in what would be an otherwise very-low-light situation (most cameras don’t lock focus very well in really low light).
