I mentioned a somewhat similar technique in Chapter 7, but if you don’t shoot weddings, you might have missed it (and, in this scenario, there is no dance floor, sadly). The trick is to position a second flash somewhere in the shot, so you can actually see the pop of light from the flash in your frame. It can add a real sense of excitement to the scene—the bright pop of light—and you’ll see this fairly often now that you’re aware of it.
