Which Color Background to Order First

If you’re going to buy a seamless paper background to get started, I’d recommend going with a white roll, because when you buy a white roll, you can actually get four different backgrounds out of it. Here’s how: (1) If you put a really bright flash on the background to light it (see page 110), it becomes a solid-white background, so there’s your first color. And, yes, even though the paper is solid white, if you don’t light it, it looks gray, which brings us to: (2) If you don’t light the background with a flash, the light from your main light will spill over onto it quite a bit, giving you a light gray background. ...
