So, what do you do if you’re shooting outdoors, you have your flash powered all the way up, and it’s just not enough light? You don’t change your shutter speed (that doesn’t control the brightness of the flash at all), but instead, you start by lowering your f-stop. If you were at f/8, try f/5.6 and see if that does the trick. If not, then it’s time to raise your ISO, which helps tremendously when you’re trying to get more power from your flash. Since we normally shoot with flash at our lowest, cleanest ISO (see page 53), you probably have plenty of headroom to crank up the ISO without introducing a lot of noise, ...
