It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
The L1 Data Cache
The L1 Data Cache services data load and store requests issued by the core's Load and Store execution units. When a miss occurs, the L1 Data Cache forwards the request to the L2 Cache for fulfillment (over the BSB).
