Organizational leaders merge with or acquire other entities because they believe the union will provide for the attainment of strategic goals more quickly and inexpensively than acting on their own (Hapeslagh & Jamison, 1991). In some cases, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) can help a company move quickly into a new market or pursue a strategy that otherwise would be too costly, risky, or technologically advanced to achieve independently.
