It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

スクラムチームにおいて開発チームはプロダクトを前進させるエンジンだ。エンジンがなくては先へ進めないし、エンジンの馬力があれば速く進める。
エンジンの出力は、開発ができるスキル、能力だ。プロダクトを通じて価値を産み出すには、もの作りをできる人材が欠かせない。2020年版のスクラムガイドにはこう書かれている。
スクラムチームは機能横断型で、各スプリントで価値を生み出すために必要なすべてのスキルを備えている。

言い換えれば、スキルが足らないならそもそもスクラムチームとして成立しないのだ。プロダクトのビジョンがあり想定するマーケットがあるなら、もの作りをできるようにメンバーを集めるのが第一歩となる。スクラムだろうがなんであろうがその点は変わらない。
いっぽうで、スクラムチームに十全な能力が最初から揃っているのは稀だ。今あるスキルや能力だけでは足らないとわかったなら、獲得する必要がある。持っているスキルであっても、より熟達し、洗練させ、更新していかなくてはならない。
まずは潜在する能力を発揮しないといけない。個々人が能力を生かすために、障害を取り除かねばならないときがある。あるいは能力を生かせる方向にプロダクトを調整することもある。スクラムチームの外側への働きかけも必要になる。いろいろな改善を通じて、すべてのメンバーが持てる能力を遺憾なく活用できるようになるまで、重要だが大変な仕事にたくさん遭遇するだろう。 ...
