Numeric Keypad

On the far-right of the keyboard is a numeric keypad that looks like calculator keys. If you have a laptop, don’t think you are missing a numeric keypad—see pages 45–46. In some applications, these numeric keys will type numbers, and in other applications they will move the insertion point (see page 196 for a description of the insertion point).

Num Lock

In some applications these keys can do both—they can type numbers or they can move the insertion point, depending on whether the Num Lock key is down; when down, it locks the keypad into typing numbers instead of moving the insertion point.
