Visual Examples of all those Files and What They Do
Here are examples of the most common files you will download and some of the possible scenarios for installing them. Many files might act differently from what’s described here, but they’re all pretty similar.
The simple .sit
Below is a good old-fashioned .sit (dot sit) file, the kind that’s been around forever. You can make a .sit file with the program StuffIt Lite or StuffIt Deluxe. Every Mac for the past several years has had a utility called StuffIt Expander included, so when you double-click a .sit, it automatically unstuffs.
