Visual Clues and Navigating in the Dialog Box

As is typical on the Mac, the dialog box has many visual clues that tell you what to do or what to expect, as well as clues to navigating (moving around and selecting files in the dialog box).

Look carefully at the two dialog boxes below. The most important visual clue, one that you should become accustomed to noticing, is the selection in each box.

  • On the left, the edit box is selected, where it says “Untitled,” waiting for you to type the name. Notice the border around the edit box.

  • On the right, the folder “Documents” is selected. Notice the border is around the directory now, instead of around the edit box.
