Storing a Folder in the Dock

You can also store a “copy” of a folder in the Dock: just drag the folder down to the right side of the Dock and drop it. The other items will move over to make room. This does not move your folder—it automatically places an “alias” in the Dock. Your original folder stays right where it is. But now you can open the folder from the Dock: you can open a full window, or you can pop up a menu that displays all of the items stored inside this folder.

To see the name of the folder in the Dock: Position the pointer over the folder icon in the Dock and just “hover” (don’t click). The name of the folder will appear just above the Dock.
