So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 38. Reformatting and Partitions
Hard disks are usually so huge these days that it is often a good idea to separate one large hard disk into several partitions. Each partition then acts like a separate hard disk, or volume—each partition has a separate icon, a separate window, and an individual name.
Using different partitions might also improve the speed of your Mac because it won’t have to search the entire hard disk to find your data—it will just search the one partition that your work is stored on.
To create partitions, you have to reformat your hard disk. This will entirely destroy every piece of data on your disk, so make sure you back up everything you need before you reformat!
