After upgrading from SharePoint 2007, administrators are able to choose whether to switch to the new user interface, for example, the ribbon interface, or maintain the SharePoint 2007 look and feel (backwards compatible user interface). This enables developers and designers time to gracefully update and adapt a site’s CSS and other design features, such as master pages, to 2010 standards post-upgrade. In addition, SharePoint 2010 includes a preview option to enable an administrator and/or designer to review the new look and feel before making any changes and/or finally switching to the new interface.
