Creating a SharePoint 2010 Site Collection

Because the basis for the majority of examples and demonstrations throughout this book is a single site collection, This section shows you how to create a new site collection. If you have not already read Chapter 1, “SharePoint 2010 Overview,” and Chapter 2, “SharePoint 2010 Architectural Overview,” which cover fundamental features and architecture within SharePoint 2010, then I recommend you do in order to familiarize yourself with the core concepts of the product. This is especially true if you are completely new to SharePoint. If you’ve worked with SharePoint 2007 then you might already be familiar with how site collections work and fit in to a SharePoint deployment.
