I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Adding Web Part Zones to Page Layouts
Earlier in this chapter, I compared field controls and Web part zones and pointed out key differences between working with both options when it came to designing page layouts. Field controls and Web part zones can co-exist on a page layout, but you need to consider the degree of end user control that you delegate as a result of employing Web part zones (and Web parts). For instance, if you want to include a Web part in SharePoint Designer—as opposed to allowing a content author control over adding Web parts via the Web interface—then you should lock down the Web part zone to avoid changes being made to that Web part and also stop content authors from adding additional Web parts to the page.
