It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Editing Publishing Pages in SharePoint Designer
Publishing pages, created from page layouts, typically cannot be directly edited in SharePoint Designer. If you attempt to edit a publishing page, then you see a dialog, as shown in Figure 15.61.

Using SharePoint Designer, you can detach a publishing page from its page layout. Doing so enables you to edit the publishing page, separate to its page layout, and perform additional editing tasks such as adding additional Web part zones and changing the master page.
