Web part pages have been an integral part of SharePoint since the early versions of the product and are still widely used in SharePoint 2010. In fact, list and library pages are basically Web part pages. Web part pages fulfill a common need: the ability to add just Web parts to a single page. As mentioned earlier in this chapter, Web part pages do not offer the same degree of flexibility as Wiki pages and you might find a need for Web part pages when creating Web part connections or dashboard type functionality where you want to limit to the page to just Web parts within defined Web part zones and not include the free textual areas included in Wiki pages.
