Page layouts, originally introduced in SharePoint Server 2007, continue to underpin Web content management (WCM) and publishing page functionality in SharePoint Server 2010. However, although a number of page layouts present in SharePoint Server 2007 are included in SharePoint Server 2010, there are some key changes as outlined here:
• Page layouts still include the page content field, but, unlike SharePoint Server 2007 publishing pages, when editing page content fields in the Web interface the publishing rich text editor (RTE) no longer floats (can be dragged and dropped) within the actual page. Rather, editing page content fields invokes the publishing RTE options in the ribbon.
