It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Creating Custom XSLT Styles for XLVs
Earlier in this chapter, I mentioned how you can reuse XLVs by choosing the save to Site Gallery or save to File options in SharePoint Designer. I also pointed out some considerations around reusing XLVs, such as where you’ve applied conditional formatting and image icons to the source XLVs. In this section, I show you how to create custom XSLT view styles.
A new content type introduced in SharePoint 2010, namely the List View Style content type, makes it possible to target custom XSLT files to either XLV or DFWPs.
